Ticket: PHP error when I edit a field type

Status Resolved
Add-on / Version Publisher 1.5.7
Severity Critical
EE Version 2.9

I can see this error at the top of the page when I want to edit any field type. I just upgraded from 15.2 to 1.5.7

I can’t replicate that error. Can you download 1.5.8 from Devot:ee and try that?

#2

ADNX

Same issue with 1.5.8

Does some update are needed when you upgrade from 1.5.2 to new versions? I see the correct number version in modules section.

#4

BoldMinded (Brian)

Just click the Run Module Updates button on the Modules page.

#5

BoldMinded (Brian)

What version of PHP do you have?

#6

ADNX

Applied the update button. Still the same. We are using PHP Version 5.4.30

Just out of curiosity, are you running any caching? APC, eAccelorator or something like that? Can you replicate this in a new/clean EE environment with only Publisher installed on the same server? Have you tried moving the site to a different server to see if the error persists?

ADNX

We are just using the default file caching of expression engine.I tried to clear all the caches. Same result. We cannot use another server or I do not have enough time to test a new install.

I think you should look at differences in code in the error lines between 1.5.2 and 1.5.8. Clearly something wrong in the code.

In order for me to look into this I need you to do these things on your side. This is not an issue I can replicate locally in either PHP 5.3 or 5.4, nor has anyone else reported a similar issue. If I got multiple reports of this happening then I could assume its an issue with Publisher, but this is the only such report. Usually when an error occurs like this that I can’t replicate its due to an environment specific issue or an add-on conflict, neither of which I can debug locally. Creating a clean install should take only 10 or 15 minutes. I can’t blindly debug some code like this, customers need to help pinpoint the cause of it, its the nature of distributed software… there are too many variables in play that could cause the issue.

I will try this week-end

Patrice, you’re off the hook for creating the new environment. Someone else reported the same error, so I’ll dive into it some more.

#12

BoldMinded (Brian)

Patrice, did you do a new install of 1.5.8 or did you upgrade from an older version?

#13

BoldMinded (Brian)

Disregard my last question, forgot you mentioned that already.

#14

BoldMinded (Brian)

Can you go to the Support page in Publisher’s menu and submit the form? It will send me information about what add-ons and stuff you have installed. I want to compare it to what the other customer is reporting.

As suspected conflict with another add-on that is messing with a core EE object in a way it should not. For more information: https://github.com/rsanchez/entry_type/pull/38
