Ticket: Wyvern Field Unable to Edited in Publish/Edit (invisible)

Status Resolved
Add-on / Version 1.6.4
Severity Critical
EE Version v2.9.0

The Wyvern field I’m using will work for about a day or so then disappear and become uneditable. The field goes completely gray. I have had to uninstall/reinstall many times. It was working today, then I check “source” as an available field in Wyvern then it went gray on me again. I’ve never had this issue with the plugin… Any ideas?

Sounds and looks like a JavaScript error on the page. What is in your JS console? Have you installed any other add-ons lately? Try disabling/uninstalling other add-ons until the error goes away. The only time I’ve seen this happen is if there is a JS error, and usually its an error caused by another add-on, which when occurs will stop all further JS from executing.

Only other addon I have is NavEE. I can try uninstalling that, but they were working fine in conjunction with each other.

Did you try clearing your browser cache? Did you look at your JS console for errors?

Looks like it’s not loading CK editor – EE has been doubling up my site url for some reason; e.g., domain.com/themes/domain.com/themes

also getting this developer notification in EE admin panel:

Deprecated function add_to_head() called in system/expressionengine/third_party/wyvern/helper.wyvern.php on line 1471.
Deprecated since 2.8. Use CP::add_to_foot() for scripts instead.

Yes, I have cleared browser cache.

Try updating Wyvern to 1.7… you’re a few versions behind.

Updated to Wyvern 1.7.0 – I’ve uninstalled all other plugins/add ons – Still no luck

Console log is showing CKEditor isn’t loading – no idea how/why this is happening, but my URL’s are all messed up:

I change Wyvern fields over to textarea – uninstall Wyvern – Delete Wyvern/CKEditor files – Reinstall – Works fine – Add “source” as a custom field and immediately breaks!!!

What’s going on!!!

Try installing it into a new/clean EE environment. Don’t change the default configuration, just install it to see if that fixes the url problem. I’m pretty sure its something with your environment b/c this isn’t something I can replicate, nor are there any recent similar bug reports. Every time I’ve seen this happen before its b/c another add-on was creating a JS error which stopped CKeditor from loading.

I can’t dump my EE site and start all over again – Wyvern only breaks when I choose “source” as an option in the configuration. Working fine now until I change what’s in the Wyvern toolbar menu.

I’m not asking you to dump your current site, I’m asking you to setup a new one. Did you install the full CKeditor package or the basic one?

Gotcha – I’d just as soon use something else. Whole point of using the plugin is to mitigate extra labor 😊

There’s nothing you can tell me from all the settings I shared?

Can you take a screenshot of your JS console when this happens to see if there is an error? It doesn’t seem to me like you’ve checked that, or at least you haven’t stated that you have.

Setting up a clean install of EE should only take 5-10 minutes. Create a new database, unzip the files, and run through the setup wizard.
