Ticket: Loss of data in Krea Content Elements field when required field validation triggers

We have a site where we have Publisher installed alongside ‘Krea Content Elements’, we are also using ‘BW Required Category’ to enforce selection of at least one category when adding an entry to this specific channel.

We’ve noticed that if a category is not un-assigned in an existing entry such that validation is triggered that any ‘new’ content elements which you have added using Krea Content elements are lost in the page refresh.

This is a bit of a showstopper as it results in an apparent loss of data. We’re pinged an email off to the Krea guys also but as we’re not sure whether the issue is with Publisher or Content Elements we’re contacting you too. 😊

If it helps we can provide access to a development domain…

Kind regards

Hi, Nathan. I’m going to wait to see what Krea comes back with before I look into this. I never heard of any data loss during validation errors, and based on how I know how CE works (serializing data and what not) I’m leaning towards it being a CE issue. I’m happy to look into it though if it turns out to not be a CE issue.

Hi ya, Krea are suggesting that it might be a Publisher issue, not sure if they tried it or are just making an assumption but the chap I spoke with was Peter Felix (via help@krea.com). Perhaps you could drop them an email?

Has Krea looked into it? CE is a custom fieldtype, which has direct tie ins to field validation and data re-populating. Publisher just listens for POST data and saves it to the database table. Also, could it be an issue with the required category add-on? As far as I know CE and Publisher have played nice together for a long time.

Nathan, I don’t think this is a Publisher issue. I just installed CE in a new EE install with Publisher and everything is saving fine when I have a required field on the page that doesn’t have data, thus triggering the error page. All the fields, including CE, re-populate with the data. I also installed the BW Required Category field, and then could replicate what you described. It also occurs with the Title and URL Title fields, not just CE. Something is jacked up with that add-on.

Closing the ticket, not a Publisher issue.
