Apr 23, 2024Description of the problem
Copied down the code base to my staging site from my production site. Everything works perfectly on the production site, but on staging, I get this error on evert page on my site, including the admin.
ParseError Caught syntax error, unexpected ‘string’ (T_STRING), expecting variable (T_VARIABLE) AbstractFilesystemDriver.php:11
When I remove the speedy folder from staging, I get this error:
Unable to load the following extension file: ext.speedy.php
Any ideas?
We’re on EE 6.4.16 and Speedy 1.9.0, and this is behind our firewall so it’s not on a publicly accessible server.

That sounds like a PHP version difference error or the file did not properly download. This doesn’t sound like an actual bug with the add-on.
Also, I don’t see any purchases on your account. What license are you working with?

I can’t lookup partial license numbers. I assume the purchase wasn’t made under your account? Someone else purchased it for you?

I see the purchase on ee.com, but I don’t see it in my site, so you’re probably getting invalid license warnings in the control panel. You can claim the license at boldminded.com/claim and then it’ll be in my license database too.

You can find out the version yourself. In the sidebar under Developer go to Tools > Utilities > PHP Info. URL is /admin.php?/cp/utilities/php - Do that on each server.

Thanks Brian,
Just updating you on this. I’m unable to see the version of PHP on our staging server because of this error. The admin doesn’t load. I’ve asked our server team to update the staging server to 7.4, which is what our production server is running - speedy works great over there.
Once they get that updated, I’ll see if this error goes away. I’ll update you either way.

Upgrade to 7.4 solved this issue. Closing this out - thank you so much for your help!

Good to know. FWIW all my addons are 7.4 minimum, and later this summer I’m making 8.1 the minimum supported version for all addons.
