Ticket: Scrolling bug when viewing grid fields

Status Resolved
Add-on / Version Publisher 3.7.4
Severity
EE Version 6.3.5

If you have a grid field defined when you try to edit the page and the Publisher add-on is loaded you cannot scroll down past the grid field.

As you attempt to scroll past the grid field the screen redraws and puts you higher up the page.

Each time this happens white space is added to the top of the entry window.

Remove the Publisher add-on and there is no problem.

Manually dragging the scroll bar down past the grid field seems to get you to the lower parts of the entry screen.

See this video of the effect happening.  https://ln5.sync.com/dl/214f8a990/ae5pd556-8i44ec87-b5t9dca9-fjje98h8

That is pretty sus. I have a whole channel in my local environment with nothing but Grid fields in it, and I’ve never seen that happen (ever). Have you tested other browsers? What happens if you move the Grid field up so it isn’t the last one in the list? This feels like something related to EE itself b/c I don’t have any scrolling related code in Publisher’s codebase… it doesn’t care about such things.

I hear what you’re saying about uninstalling Publisher “fixes” the issue, but I just can’t imagine how Publisher has anything to do with this. Have you tried uninstalling any other add-ons first? Do you have any custom CP JS or CSS added to the page?

Interesting - you are right, it doesn’t happen in Chromium based browsers, but also it only happens when Publisher is installed… so seems unlikely to be a fault with EE itself. FWIW my default browser is Firefox Developer (version 105 currently).

Maybe - things not helped by the difficulties Publisher has with being disabled - so testing of this was been done on an earlier system that had few entries, but however / whatever is happening uninstalling Publisher stopped effect happening - but whether this is simply something exposing another issue that is normally hidden or something to do with Publisher I have no idea.

Anyhow, other add-ons installed are: ExpressionEngine Pro 1.2.1 Freeform Pro 2.0.1 JCOGS Image 1.2.14 Low Variables 4.1.0 Publisher 3.7.4 Rich Text Editor 2.1.0 Statistics 2.2.0 Streeng 1.10.0 Structure 5.2.1 Wygwam 5.3.0

I’ll check this in FF and see if I can replicate. Probably won’t have all those add-ons installed though.

I tried the login provided, but it didn’t work. The URL works, user/pass wasn’t accepted.

I think this is some weird css rendering issue in Firefox with the col-group class that is on Publisher’s toolbar. I don’t think it’s needed anymore (could be an artifact needed for older versions of EE). If I remove it it doesn’t seem to be exhibiting the behavior you’re seeing. I’ll do some more testing and let you know.

The update works! Many thanks for fixing this - means a lot to be able to continue my familiar browser 😊
