Ticket: Can’t preview drafts

I’m having issues with previewing drafts for unpublished entries. This is on a site running Structure. So what I do is click the button to add a new page in Structure, enter my content and click the “Save Draft & Preview” button. In the preview I get a 404. If I save the draft, re-open the entry and try it again, still a 404. If I publish the entry, then do a Save Draft & Preview I will get a preview to display. So it’s just when it’s a new entry in Draft status.

I’m assuming this is just a config issue and something stupid on my end of the keyboard. Do I need to modify my templates at all to be able to preview drafts possibly?

Check your authorized preview settings. If authorized previews are enabled, and it’s a brand new entry and you’re trying to preview the draft, it will not work. You need to disable authorized previews.

Also make sure you have the status param in your entries tag correct: status=”{publisher:entry_status}”

“Do I need to modify my templates at all to be able to preview drafts possibly?” - Yes, see previous comment 😉

I did have those settings… It was the status=”{publisher:entry_status}” that is was missing! I didn’t realize Publisher required any changes on the tag side. I had used a previous workflow module that didn’t need that.

One question. Since this now has a Publisher tag for the status if I ever need to disable Publisher, will all my pages stop working?

“I didn’t realize Publisher required any changes on the tag side” - there are a few very minor changes required… only those that use features that require changes.

If you ever disable Publisher, then {publisher:entry_status} will remain un-parsed and EE should ignore it b/c it’s not a valid status. A simple find and replace though would cleanup your templates.
