Jan 05, 2016Thanks for fixing https://boldminded.com/support/ticket/1248.
I just tried to download the fix with Publisher 1.6.10. but instead of a download link I can only find a $150 renew button.
I migrated from Devot:ee and the latest download there is 1.6.8.
Don’t you offer free bugfix updates?
(We don’t need new features, just want Publisher to work correct again.)
BoldMinded (Brian)
When Devot:ee added the option for renewal/upgrade pricing last year, I set all my add-ons to that immediately, which means after 1 year there is an upgrade fee. Within that year you get all the upgrades for free. Its not financially viable to offer free upgrades for life. I’m 1 person doing this on nights and weekends. The same upgrade plan was migrated to my site as well, so it looks like you made the original purchase on 6/18/2013. Devot:ee is not getting any new version uploads. My site is the only place to get new or renewed add-ons. Even if I was still selling on Devot:ee there would be a renewal fee.

I don’t expect free updates for life at all. I am more than happy to pay for new features and major upgrades. It feels a bit strange for me when terms change after purchase.
I can’t find any info about the renewal fee on your site, your license agreement or during the purchase process. May be you can communicate this more clearly before purchasing an add-on.
A Publisher license for a site with an expected 5 years life-time costs effectively $800 instead of $200. That’s a noticeable difference and good to know upfront for calculations and client communication.
But I am not here to discuss your business decisions any further. 😉
Are all future upgrades (e. g. EE3) covered by the yearly fee?
BoldMinded (Brian)
I’ll make sure to update my site so that is more clear, thanks for the input.
Unfortunately I don’t think it will be included in that yearly fee because it is massive rewrite. Its effectively a whole new add-on. 90% of it or more will be brand new code. I’m not trying to nickel and dime people, I’m really not, but I’m putting a huge amount of work into it, and I don’t expect everyone to port their sites from 2 to 3, thus many people won’t need to upgrade. The renewal fee covers bug fixes and new features, not a whole new codebase.
You have a good point about the 5 year life-time cost. I’ll reconsider the renewal pricing and get back to you later today.

I forgot to mention upgrading from Publisher 1.x to 2.x (for EE 3) won’t require a full purchase again, it will be a discounted price.

I changed the Publisher renewal price to $75. Publisher Lite to $40.
Dennis Frank
Hey Brian, $75 is a totally reasonable amount. Just purchased the renewal. 😊
