Hello,

I’m looking to see if there’s an existing way or work-around that the Wyvern Video search tool can find videos based on ID numbers.  We use your module all over our control panel!  But we have a split camp in our office.  Half of the content editors love it—for obvious reasons of previewing, linked account search, formatting, etc.  However the other half, prefers the ‘old-fashioned’ way of a text field with copy/paste Vimeo link (using ID number).  Also—the template coders (me) love it 😊.

Long story short - we’re really looking for a way to make the ‘other half’ happy, but providing a way to paste a link or Vimeo ID number into the search box to find respective video.  Currently, it only seems to support Title.

Thanks for consideration,

Colin

Hi, Colin. Its been awhile since I’ve worked on this, but if I remember correctly I think its a limitation of the API. Even searching by ID on vimeo.com doesn’t work. So I’m not sure I can add this. If you find documentation stating otherwise I’ll definitely give it a look.

Hey, so I filed a ticket with Vimeo. Below is their response. What do you think?

Hi Colin, Currently adding the URL or video ID as a search query will likely not return the video. That said, if you already have the Vimeo URL or the video ID, you should try to get its metadata using that information instead of performing a query. Take a look at our endpoint documentation for more information: https://developer.vimeo.com/api/endpoints/videos

Interesting approach. Thanks for sharing that. I’ll be honest and say that I probably won’t implement this anytime soon. I’ve put all my add-ons on feature freeze while I work on porting them to EE3. My time is limited and if I’m adding new things to add-ons I’ll never get around to finish updating them for EE3. I’ll certainly look into this for the EE3 version though. I know that doesn’t help you now, but its the best I can do.

Totally understood. Thanks for your honestly. And yes please! Keep the focus on EE3. We’re pumped for the upgrade.

I work with a very experienced plugin developer. I’d be happy to support the cause by asking him to do some implementation. If you were able to give me some guidance, I can add this to his plate and perhaps apply this to the official version for everyone if you approve.

mod.wyvern_video.php load_vimeo() function is where he’d want to look. If you guys figure it out I’d be happy to add it to the official release. Just send me the updates via a diff file.
