Ticket: Error on image upload using Ansel and Bloqs

Status Resolved
Add-on / Version Bloqs 4.7.1
Severity
EE Version 5.4.2

We are running into an error when we add or edit an entry using bloqs and ansel together. We have removed all restrictions within Ansel settings in terms of width/height, we have renamed the image and ensured the fields aren’t required but after multiple different attempts we are unable to find a solution as to what the problem could be. We are able to add a bloq with text only without a problem, but when we add a bloq with an ansel field we get an error and cannot submit.

Please let us know if you need more information. I have a screen recording but it is too large to share in this upload field.

Thanks!
Ashley

Here is the ticket I submitted to TJ @ Buzzing Pixel for reference: https://buzzingpixel.com/support/issue/203

Hello, just following up here on this. The client is unable to upload photos into any of the Bloqs fields so we would like to try to get this remedied. Please let us know if there is anything else you need from us. I can send the screen recording if that would be helpful.

Thanks! Ashley

Hi, Ashley. Sorry I missed this ticket, I didn’t see the email notification come through. I’m going to have to get a recent copy of Ansel and set it up locally to replicate the issue, which will take some time. It sounds like you sent TJ a video? Can you also share that video with me?

Ashley, I don’ t see any such errors. I’m using the latest version, Bloqs 4.8. The only issue I see happening is when adding a new bloq to an entry and trying to upload an image it does not save the image in the newly added bloq. When editing an entry with an existing bloq containing an Ansel field, image uploads appear to work fine. I don’t want to just lob this back over the fence to TJ, but the scenario I just described sounds like an Ansel issue. A newly added bloq has a random temporary ID assigned to it (e.g. field_id_2[blocks_new_block_3][values][col_id_64]) so it’s possible it’s not recognizing the upload.

As for the specific “there was an error in one or more bloqs” error, I can’t replicate that, so the video you send me will be important to help see what you’re seeing and to try to replicate it locally.

I’m testing in EE 6 btw. I haven’t tested any add-ons in 5 for quite awhile. Have you tried the latest 4.8 build to see if it resolves the issue? If you still experience the issue when using 4.8 then I’ll try to replicate this locally in EE 5.

Hi Brian - Just upgraded to the latest 4.8 build of Bloqs and still running into the error unfortunately. The first time I tried it it seemed to work fine - and I thought it fixed it. I was about to let you know, but then I went and tried it again and the error happened again and I was unable to add a bloq without getting the “error with a bloq” message.

Here is the new video: https://wetransfer.com/downloads/275677b4453d19236ba71a32e30169cd20210902180625/b01521f4713b11b59a7861c341c85b2120210902180640/44ff9d

Thanks again, Ashley

I’ll take another look at this, but due to my vacation schedule it might be 2 or 3 weeks until I can really take a look into this. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Have you considered upgrading to EE 6? You’ll be better off in the long run if you do.

Thanks Brian - we are planning on upgrading this client before the end of the year but we will need it working before then. Let us know when you have had time to take a look, or if there is anything else you recommend we try in the meantime.

To be completely honest I’m close to dropping support for EE 5. Depending on what the issue is and if its a complicated EE 5 specific fix, my recommendation may be to just upgrade to EE 6. Would you have the time to do a test upgrade to EE 6 to see if the upgrade will resolve the issue, even if you’re not planning to upgrade the customer’s prod site for awhile?

I finally just got around to testing this, and I couldn’t reproduce the error in EE 5. I did, however, recently fix another field validation issue, which may or may not be related. The next post will contain a link to the 4.9.0 release that’ll be coming out in a few days. Give it a shot and let me know how it works.
