I’m not getting any output on has_newer_draft. I also tested it on your demo site with the same empty output.
My entry settings are Open and Save in draft by default. Switching view to Published does give me an massage that a Newer draft is present. But this is in the CP.
Should be enough info. If not please let me know

It works when calling a specific entry and when doing a loop with limit=1 but when you set the limit higher then 1 it loses it’s value. Not a big but so you know.
